Re: Otter news.

I doubt that there's a direct correlation between an increase in otter numbers and a decrease in water voles. As both have been here since the ice age they have found a balance in the past and will do so again. As for info on fish, there's a lot of data here. https://data.gov.uk/dataset/f49b8e4b-867...

Re: Lake Menteith 9th March 2019

Twelve pike to us (and a trout) but lots of missed runs and dropped runs. Four doubles but best fish was only 14lbs.

Re: PAC and EA News Nov 2018

I chair the Specialist Group on behalf of the Angling Trust. The group is made up of representatives from most of the major specialist angling groups, PAC's representative is Dave Mutton. Groups who regularly attend include the PAC, LAS, BCSG, CS, Tenchfishers and new members the Perchfishers who ar...

Re: PAC and EA News Nov 2018

This byelaw review has been long in coming, I've previously posted on this forum about it. It is, however, likely to actually happen this year and I've just spoken to a member of the EA fisheries' team about it. It seems the plan is to standardise local byelaws across the country, there is currently...

Re: algal blooms

I'm sure there will be some research somewhere on this, don't have a link though. Let's not forget the effect of temperature, a higher temperature will increase a fish's oxygen demand so even if oxygen levels are high, they may not be high enough. I've barely fished this winter due to a series of he...

Re: Barries Buzzer

I've never used a Barrie's Buzzer but I do use spinnerbaits quite a lot in coloured conditions. My favourite is the Northland Tackle "Booty Call" spinnerbait but they are increasingly difficult to find. Thankfully, I have a stock of them.

Re: John's rod question

I use quite short rods for my lure fishing, usually just six or seven feet in length. Fatigue is a big problem if you're out casting all day and big lures on long rods are going to tire you out quite quickly. You can cast further with a long rod, that's for sure, but in all honesty, most of my fish ...

Re: Pike Season

Crucian carp are struggling due to hybridisation with numerous carp species (mostly ornamental), char are unable to spawn in the silt brought about by eutrophication, whitefish species are suffering the same fate, barbel are not recruiting well in our rivers due to endocrine disruptors, flash floodi...
