Re: R.I.P. John Wilson.
Very sad news and another truly great angling personality gone.
I met John only a couple of times, luckily on both occasions with my son while was just a lad. John was one of his 'TV heroes' and actually meeting him was a real joy for him. The time John gave him and the very genuine interest he showed in what he had caught marked him out as the 'real deal' in my book. Not just a face on the TV, but a really nice bloke and a true, true gentleman. R.I.P. 'JW'

I remember JW doing a talk for Suffolk PAC many years ago, before the TV series'. He actually showed us a video of a pilot, Pike fishing filmed on a prolific broad (at that time) and went into detail on the tricks of filming. I met him several times over the years and he was usually a good sport, unless it was early morning prior to an angling show. His contribution to angling cannot be over estimated. RIP.

It was in the 'Flying Horse' pub at Whitehouse. I'm guessing around 1985/86, maybe a bit later. At the time JW was well renowned as an angling writer.
