There was a programme on BBC1 in the evening a few days ago called 'River Walks'.
This programme featured the rivers Dove, Soar and Trent and was an entertaining little half-hour.
In the programme trout anglers on the Dove were accused of spoiling the river by installing weirs to form deeper pools where they could catch trout. The authorities are now removing these weirs to 'improve' the river. There were scenes of a weir being removed, and commentary about how the trout now have more clean gravel and less silt to spawn in. This was accompanied by scenes of a couple of trout happily swimming around in clean water. This was then followed by a scene of A SHOAL OF MACKEREL !?!?!?
How many mackerel swim in the Derbyshire Dove? Anyone seen one or caught one?
I fear that the BBC have lost the plot. Never again will we see the likes of 'A Passion for Angling'; a series interesting to anglers and non-anglers alike. Angling seems to be seen as a blood sport now.
