Hello from Lancashire.
Hi all, it's the start of my 2nd years PAC membership and my 1st post. I've been "Pleasure" fishing on and off for 50 years or so. I fish as much for the peace and quiet as actually landing anything. My best fish before Pike was a 5lb 2oz Tench. I got interested in Pike fishing about 3 years ago. After landing my 1st Pike weighing in at 5lb 12oz I was hooked. It was awesome but a bit scary as it's got teeth. Up to press I've landed some at 7lb, one at 10lb and my best at 15lb 3oz. All using deadbait sometimes fished on the bottom and sometimes suspended from a float. I bought lure tackle last year but only tried it twice. 1st trip I blanked. 2nd trip I felt several "Bites" that let go immediately, a Hawthorn tree, (Must improve my casting) and a Jack Pike. I'm hoping to get out much more this year than I've done over the last few years. I've got 5 Pikelines magazines and haven't found time to read any of them yet. I can see there's a lot to learn about Pike, landing them and unhooking them etc. I've got loads of questions that I plan on posting.
Tight lines, Clive.

Thanks Brian, I've read 2 issues now, 160 & 161. The articles on Otters are very interesting and enlightening. More importantly, the explanation in issue 161 by John Currie about not Piking in the summer months has been an eye opener for me. Never having been interested in Pike until a few years ago, I'm only just picking up on the reasons for not Piking in the summer/warmer months. It's always been a bit vague, one explanation was that "Well, it's just tradition". Well, now I know about dissolved oxygen (DO) thanks to PAC. I'm going to put my feet up and read the remaining 3 issues this afternoon. Off out in the pursuit of Tench and Roach tomorrow.

Thanks John, I read all of them and learned a lot. I found answers to some of the questions I was going to post plus lots more stuff to boot. Looking forward to the next issue. Didn't catch any Tench but got 20 plus small Roach. I posted about "Hooks and barbs" and got some good advice from David Holden. I've also discovered that you can get semi barbed and barbless trebles size 6 and 8 and after reading a "Dear editor" letter by Steven Hill, issue 164 page 57, I plan on changing my lure trebles to barbless 6s or 8s.

Hello Clive, I'd recommend attending a PAC meeting, you have a few regions in your area.
All the best

Thanks Michael, I've been looking at the regions in my area and hope to attend one in the new season all being well.
Thanks to ForumAdmin, it's a bit early to know if I can make it but I've made a mental note on paper of it.

Thanks Brian, will do. Lovely sunny day here. Trying for Tench if that fails Roach.
